US Press Release for DVD of "Party at the Palace"
Two spectacular DVDs featuring performances from the Queen's Jubilee Concerts, "Prom at the Palace" and "Party at the Palace" will be available from Naxos of America and BBC/Opus Arte on July 2nd.
Palace in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and a combined
audience of 24,000 lucky ticket-holders. They were filmed by the BBC
production team and broadcast live on the BBC and later around the world
to a multi-million person television audience. Highlights from the
concerts will be transferred to DVD and distributed in the US by Naxos
of America.
Under the creative guidance of Sir George Martin, Phil Ramone and Sir
Andrew Davis, some of the world's most celebrated pop and classical
musicians appeared at these sensational events. The BBC Symphony
Orchestra and Chorus, under the baton of their Conductor Laureate Sir
Andrew Davis, formed the backbone of the two hour classical concert --
"Prom at the Palace" -- on June 1st. Opera fans enjoyed Dame Kiri te
Kanawa (singing Mozart and Gershwin), Sir Thomas Allen (Rossini and Sir
Edward German), and Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu (Puccini and
Verdi) sharing the honors. Maestro Mstislav Rostropovich also made a
rare guest appearance with the cello section of the London Symphony
Orchestra playing Villa-Lobos. "Prom at the Palace" was broadcast on PBS
on June 1st.
"Party at the Palace" -- took place on June 3rd and has made news
throughout the world. The show was kicked off by Queen guitarist Brian
May playing a rendition of "God Save the Queen" from the rooftop of the
Palace and was followed by a fantastic line-up of artists playing their
greatest hits. Artists included Annie Lennox, Atomic Kitten, Blue, Bryan
Adams, Brian Wilson, The Corrs, Cliff Richard, Elton John, Emma Bunton,
Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Mis-Teeq, Paul
McCartney, Phil Collins, Ozzy Osbourne, Ricky Martin, Queen, Ray Davies,
Rod Stewart, S Club 7, Shirley Bassey, Steve Winwood, Tom Jones, Tony
Bennett, and Pop Idol, Will Young.
BBC Worldwide will donate proceeds from its commercial activity
surrounding the Jubilee concerts to The Queen Elizabeth II Golden
Jubilee Trust.

A seperate CD release is scheduled for June 24 in the UK. Tracklistings
were announced and it seems "Bohemian Rhapsody" has been edited out.
No word on a US release for the CD (yet.)
