Ed: Reported before, but this gives some additional information.
becoming the first rock act to release an album
in Iran.
I'm not sure wether this has already been posted, but here it is anyway...I found this on planetrock.com.au in the news section, dated August 25th.
Queen have made it to the history books by
becoming the first rock act to release an album
in Iran.
Frontman Freddie Mercury, who was of Iranian
ancestry and died from AIDS in 1991, was a
homosexual - which is considered to be a crime
in the Islamic country.
The release is a collection of greatest hits,
including 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'I Want to
Break Free', and is in the form of a cassette
costing approximately AUS$1.50. It also
features translated lyrics of each song.
A sales assistant at an Iranian book and record
store has said of the release: "It is the first rock
album to hit the market legally and people are
surprised and pleased to see it has the lyrics,
not just the music."
