Frontman of Dirty Pretty Things, has selected Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits’ album as a ‘Guilty Pleasure’.
Barât, founder of The Libertines, said of the album “I need to make it absolutely clear that I’m not referring to volume two of the ‘Greatest Hits’, which has some 80’s monstrosities on it. I guess it’s uncool now because of Brian May and his musical”.
Queenzoner’s will not need reminded that the album, first released in 1981, has sold 5,407,587 copies - 600,000 more than its nearest rival, the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in the UK.
Queen’s relationship with NME has been frosty ever since Freddie Mercury was interviewed by Tony Stewart of the NME in June 1977 which was published with the headline ‘Is This Man a Prat’. Prior to this is is worth noting that Queen were voted the NME’s Best British Stage Band in 1976 along with the band with the Best Single (Bo Rhap).
Barât is said to be leaking new Dirty Pretty Things demos to the internet and is due to release a new album with them on June 30th with a single preceding the album on June 23rd. The album is rumoured to be called 'Romance At Short Notice' and the single has been confirmed as 'Tired of England'.
